- Services, Specialties and Ground Rules
- --------------------------------------
-
- THINGS In a typical OPUS(tm) system, the SysOp (SYStem OPerator) both
- TO owns and manages the local BBS. He or she will set all the
- KNOW policies for the BBS, define its scope and emphasis, determine
- Message and File Areas, decide which services to provide and
- monitor the ongoing operations of the system. With the
- broad flexibility of the OPUS(tm) software this results in a
- wealth of customized Bulletin Board Systems, each with their
- own unique approach. The broad variety of BBSs to be found
- accounts for the great appeal of "BBSing".
-
- THE It is important to emphasize that each SysOp has complete
- SYSOP control over his/her own BBS. Throughout this manual we will
- discuss ALL of the various services and functions of
- OPUS(tm); however, all services may not be available to
- all users. Your local SysOp has the ability to

- services listed in this manual may not be available to you on
- all OPUS(tm) systems. If you have any questions about
- these services please contact the SysOp on your local
- OPUS(tm) system AFTER having read any public policies he/she
- may have made available.

- Getting Help When You Need It
- -----------------------------
-
- HELP Because calling a BBS and using EM can be a trying experience
- for the novice, OPUS(tm) has designed its "pathways" to always
- make help available at the touch of a key. When logged onto an
- OPUS(tm) system you will have the ability to call upon
- various HELP screens at each prompt along your journey.
- Usually just entering a question mark will solve your problem
- and allow you to continue. If, however, you run into major
- difficulties, or simply cannot find the help you need, there
- are still options.

- OPUS(tm) allows for paging the SysOp or leaving private mail
- with any comments or questions you may have. In addition, a
- powerful resource can be found in many of the OPUS(tm) Message
- Areas. There are always new users who are trying OPUS(tm)
- for the first time. Through the Message Areas these new users
- have the opportunity to interact with the "veterans" and
- get the help they might need.
